  Some Fun Cow Facts
1914 Homestead Our Farm currently has 130 Holstein milk producing cows.
A cow gives approx. 8 gals per day or enough for over 100 people to have a glass of milk every day!
A cow must have a calf once a year to continue milking. A newborn Holstein calf weighs about 80 pounds and can walk within one hour after birth!
A cow eats approx. 118 lbs. per day. That's equal to 118 bags of our delicious hermits!

Their diet consists of hay, grain and corn silage.

A cow drinks approx. 1 bathtub full of water per day.
When a Holstein cow is milking, she weighs between 1,100 and 1,500 pounds.
A cow digests its food with the help of it's four stomachs.
A Holstein's spots are like a fingerprint or a snowflake. No two cows have exactly the same pattern of spots.

Cows have a total of 32 teeth only on the bottom.

Did you know that our cow manure is great for fertilizing flowers and vegetable plants? You can pick up cow manure for FREE if you want to shovel it yourself.

A cow will produce for about 6 years.

Cows are milked by machine and need to be milked twice a day, every day. No days off/no vacations.
